Current Programmes

GDF Members are at the forefront of creating market and conduct standards and best practices for cryptoasset and digital finance participants. Our working groups include subject matter experts from across the ecosystem from crypto/digital assets, traditional financial services, legal and academic communities.

As informed by our member-led survey and Advisory Council, GDF will continue to deliver advocacy and outreach, as an open innovation platform, open to all global financial services and fintech firms to participate, in support of our mission:

“To promote and underpin the greater adoption of market standards for the use of crypto and digital assets, through the development of best practices and governance standards in a shared engagement forum with industry, policymakers, and regulators.”

The annual GDF member-led survey has helped to shape the forum and working group priorities for the 2025 Programme:

Members have communicated to us that they have little capacity for a large number of, or significant time commitment for, working groups for practices, standards and reports in 2024, and to prioritise these working groups judiciously, many members communicated a preference for a regular “forum” format with industry leaders, case studies and intelligence, including a write up, held on a recurring periodic frequency.

As such, we have put together the following list of programmes:

  • GDF Regulator (Only) Forum
  • GDF Digital Finance Forum
  • GDF Tokenization Forum
  • GDF Digital Payments Forum

To discuss involvement in all outreach programmes, please reach out to [email protected]

GDF Tokenization Forum (open to all)

For community highlights from previous forums, click here.

The GDF Tokenization Forum is a regularly recurring meeting that is open to GDF members as well as the broader digital finance world and GDF community partners, led and supported by GDF members. It convenes industry experts to discuss key areas and insights into the tokenization of real world assets and evolving tokenization strategies, across different asset classes in financial services. The sessions are purposefully curated to drive thought leadership in these subject areas, and should the need arise, serve as a catalyst to mobilise participants to form a working group to drive actionable outcomes, such as a whitepaper or report on specific verticals (e.g. debt/equity, digital bonds, etc).

In 2024, this included:

  • The FIX/FinP2P Protocol Interoperability Alliance, launched in partnership with the FIX Trading Community, which created frameworks to enable seamless integration between traditional and blockchain-based financial systems. White paper available here.
  • The Sustainable Finance Tokenization Working Group is investigating how tokenization can enhance transparency and integrity in voluntary carbon markets, contributing to broader sustainability goals. Report to be published in Q1 2025.

GDF members receive a summary and write up from each session. The broader community can access the community highlights here.

The Tokenization Forum has moved into a hybrid format with sessions being held in priority GDF community hubs including New York, London and Singapore.

Global Cryptoasset Standards

The Joint GDF and ACI FMA Standards Stewardship Working Group is focused on promoting and stewarding the Standards. The launch of this Joint Working Group represents the next phase of GDF’s legacy Global Financial Institutions for Crypto (GFIC) Working Group. Initially established to foster a common financial conduct and operating standards framework for cryptoassets in the wholesale market, the GFIC Working Group released the Standards in July 2023.

The current Joint Working Group is:

  • Developing applicable scenarios and use cases for the implementation of the Standards on the ACI FMA’s ELAC (E-Learning, Attestation, and Certification) education Portal.
  • Providing a sandbox environment for firms to test attestation and certification to the Standards through ELAC, thus supporting better alignment among market participants and promoting the consistent application of the Standards.
  • Ensuring the Standards evolve as industry matures by maintaining it as a living document that reflects the industry’s ongoing priorities and concerns. The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has expressed strong support for the Standards and sees them as a valuable supplement to future FCA rules on cryptoassets.

GDF’s original Code of Conduct had 10 codes of conduct and an AML Due-Diligence Questionnaire for VASPS / CASPS, following rigorous development and public consultation. These have now been individually retired with the highpoints from each of the codes used in the newer Global Cryptoasset Standards, a standard along with education products, now maintained by GDF and its partner the ACI FMA, the administrator of the FX Global Code.

IVMS101 – The InterVASP Messaging Standard

GDF, OpenVASP, and XReg Consulting joined forces to update the crypto industry standard IVMS101 messaging format, and to develop new standards. Participation in the working group is open to all relevant technical experts.

FinP2P Router Network

GDF is the FinP2P network administrator. FinP2P interconnects the financial services industry to enable the distribution and trading of tokenized assets by delivering interoperability routers to sell-side, buy-side and other regulated service providers.

We host a quarterly call with major jurisdictional regulators and agencies (over 60 receive discretionary invites) and deliver industry responses to key consultations.
